Our method

How upper cervical care works

Upper cervical care concentrates on the top of the neck, where the skull rests on the first two vertebrae.

Those two bones are the atlas and the axis, and the second one gives the practice its name. The idea behind the method is that small, measured changes there can be made with little force. We check how any one person responds rather than assume it. Neck adjustments carry rare serious risks, which your doctor explains before any adjustment.

  • We measure before we adjust, and again afterward.

  • We adjust one level at a time, and never more than the exam calls for.

  • We use imaging only when it is medically necessary.

A visit

One correction at a time

The same four moves, at every visit that includes an adjustment.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Measure

We check how your head and neck sit today, in the same way each time, so the comparison is fair.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Decide

The doctor tells you what the checks show and whether an adjustment is called for. You say yes or no.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Adjust once

If you say yes, one light, specific contact, then a rest. Nothing more is done at that visit.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Re-check

We measure again before you leave, and again at the next visit, then decide together what comes next.

About the method

Is this different from other chiropractic care?

It concentrates on the top of the neck and uses light contact. We do not say it is better than other care. It is a different way to examine and adjust.

Does it involve twisting the neck?

No. We do not use forceful twisting of the neck.

Will I need imaging?

Only when it is medically necessary. Most visits need none, and your doctor tells you why if one is suggested.

Ask before you decide

You can talk with the doctor about the method before you book an exam.
